One garden at a time…

Today, April 22, 2011 is Earth Day and Good Friday, both good reasons to for personal reflection on how we view and interact with our world. I would like to add that keeping our bodies healthy will give us the energy  to better look after our world and nurture our spirits.  Taking care of our bodies with good diet and exercise is essential, and one great  way to accomplish both is with growing a vegetable garden. I continue to find new muscles bending and digging in the garden, and  here is nothing as good as fresh veggies from the garden (an organic garden no less).   This is a picture of myself and my friend Kate preparing to make salsa a couple of years ago which hopefully will inspire you to get digging…….

Here are some links to some helpful information about vegetable gardening in Colorado; Vegetable Planting Guide, Vegetable Garden Hints, and Block Style Layout for Raised Bed Vegetable Gardens (square foot gardening).  There is great information available on Companion Planting in the garden to take advantages of some of the natural benefits of grouping certain plants together.  For those of you who don’t have a garden, here is a easy, ‘How to Build a Raised Bed for your Garden’ from Sunset Gardening.

Gardening can be a great family experience, as you can see our sons Colin and Connor making great Pico de Gallo!

Now is the time to start planning for this years bounty!

Making the world a better place, one garden at a time.
